Building on our foundation: why we've partnered with Artefact
What the next phase of Trade eXpansion looks like, and what it means for Nordic companies working out where AI belongs.
The question has moved
For most Nordic companies we speak to, AI is no longer a question of whether. It is a question of where: which opportunity deserves attention first, and what it takes to make it pay.
Answering that is harder than it sounds. The market is crowded with tools, platforms and suppliers, and many of them start from what their technology can do. Fewer start from what the business needs.
That leaves companies in a gap. They need a partner who begins with strategy, not a product. They need someone close enough to understand the company and its market, and honest enough to say where AI does not belong. And they need someone who can carry an idea all the way to a business case that holds up in front of management, not just to a demo.
That is the need we exist to meet.
It is also behind the next phase of Trade eXpansion, and behind the partnership we have announced with Artefact. The full announcement is here.
What we are building on
Since 2009, Trade eXpansion has completed more than 100 projects for companies across Denmark and the wider Nordic region. That work gave us deep technical experience and long standing customer relationships.
We are not moving away from that foundation. We are building on it, with a sharper focus on strategic AI and digital solutions that are driven by the business, not by the technology.
The gap we keep seeing
Most companies have no shortage of AI ideas, tools or willing suppliers. What they often lack is a clear basis for deciding which opportunities deserve further exploration, and where to start.
The result is familiar. The ambition is there, but it has not been turned into a focused, meaningful business case. Pilots multiply, and nobody can say which of them matters most.
How we work
We start outside in. From a company’s strategy, financial reality and business situation, we identify preliminary hypotheses about where AI could create value.
Then we test those hypotheses with management against the real conditions: actual processes, data, systems, investment requirements and organisational readiness. Only after that do we move into a business case, an MVP and implementation.
The order matters. A painful workflow is not automatically the right priority. It becomes one when solving it supports the company’s direction and materially affects cost, quality, revenue or risk.
Why Artefact
Artefact is a global data and AI consultancy, founded in Paris in 2014. It works with clients in dozens of countries and combines strategic consulting with hands on technical delivery. Its experience is in helping organisations adopt and scale AI.
We bring something different: close customer relationships and a working knowledge of the Danish and Nordic markets. The partnership pairs Artefact’s global expertise and technical depth with that local trust and context.
In practice, it widens what we can bring to a customer’s AI work, while the relationship stays with the partner they already know.
If you are deciding where AI belongs
Three things hold up whatever your industry or size.
- Start from the business, not the tool. Begin with your strategy and a business tension you can describe and measure, not with a technology you want to use.
- Test before you build. Check each idea against your real processes, data, systems and organisation before money goes into a pilot.
- Make the business case early. If you cannot say what an opportunity is worth and who owns the result, it is not ready for an MVP.
